Cardinals in the Bigs

The Yorkton Cardinals are proud to announce that two of their former players made their Major League Debut in 2009.

LHP Dan Runzler, who was with the Cardinals in 2004, was a September call-up for the San Fransisco Giants. Runzler appeared in 11 games, tossing 8.2 innings, while only allowing six hits and one walk.

Runzler allowed only one run, a solo homerun by San Diego's Henry Blanco in his final appearance of the year.

Back in 2004 with the Cardinals, Runzler was the ace of the staff, compiling a 3-1 record in six starts, with a 3.05 ERA.

RHP Anthony Claggett also made his first trip to the Big Leagues. He was called up by the New York Yankees in early August, and appeared in two games at Yankee Stadium. Later released, Claggett was claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Who could've known that Claggett would make the jump in 2004, when he was with Yorkton. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA, appearing in only eight games.

Congratulations to our Cardinal alumni!
